I was born in 1957, the year Elvis Presley first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. Dwight Eisenhower was beginning his second term as president and the American Civil Rights movement was just beginning. It was the post-World War II era; a time when only a man wore a hard hat and only women were allowed to bake apple pies, a time when children still etched their initials into wooden desks at school and every soldier was a hero.
