Pri-Med Boston

I spent the last 3 days listening to lectures at a medical conference in Boston. I can surely think of better things to do but part of being a physician involves committing to continuing education. It's actually a requirement for maintaining your license. I tried to make the best of the situation and learn what's new in medicine. After 20 years of doing this sport of thing, I've come to the conclusion that nothing is absolute. What was once considered the standard of care no longer is and what was once thought of as being passé is now somehow magically considered best medical practice. Everything seems to go in cycles and no matter what anyone tells you is true, you're still left to your intuition when it comes to making the right decision about yourself or someone else.

I did get a chance to meet up with my oldest son and got a glimpse of the tent city located in South Boston where they are protesting against Wall Street. I'm not sure what my stand is on this. I agree that something needs to be done to get us out of this "depression" but are these protests just reactionary? What workable alternative do they offer? To attempt to change things and make the world better makes sense but not without a viable plan otherwise we just have anarchy and what good is that? Age and experience has caused me to be very pragmatic.

WPATH Conference in Atlanta

Just got back from Atlanta. I went to the WPATH conference. It was amazing to see so many brilliant minds in one place and a large majority of them transgendered. Someday, as more kids come up the ranks, and they don't have to deal with decades of repression like many of us do now, they will be hopefully much more respected. Our future is in those kids. I think that's what I got most out of the conference. I also had a great time at a dinner dance at the Fernbank dinosaur museum dancing with about 70 other transsexuals under the skeleton of a huge brontosaurus about the size of Home Depot (well maybe not quite that big LOL)! No place in the world could such a group of people be found having as good a time as we did.
